I miss you already...

Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on their 2023 SuperBowl victory! I worked the event out of our Mission Kansas Network Operations Center to ensure that DIRECTV provided the best programming to millions of Midwest customers through all of our platforms. Hopefully my beloved Seattle Seahawks can make it to the big game next year! I am based in KC, and couldn't get outta town quick enough on Monday morning. I know the parade and downtown district is going to be crazy this week.  NFL, I miss you already...

the Nielsen ratings were released today and this year's game proved to be the 2nd most watched SuperBowl event in Nielsen ratings history with 113 million average users. I am proud to report that our platform was STELLAR with no national issues reported and only a very small number of customers experienced issues, all stemming from station diven issues before our handoff.  My hat is off to our engineering and technical support teams who worked feverishly to ensure that DIRECTV offered the best viewing experience in North America.

I am working in Indiana this week.  Happy to be back in Evansville and Terre Haute for software upgrades, hardware upgrades, ASI issues and updates.  Of course, some amazing hotels and food go along with all the hard work.  Thanks to the Doubletree Hotel in Evansville for hosting me this week and the Hilton Garden inn at Terre Haute. One of the great things about these hotels is that they both have outdoor firepits. I love hanging out by the fire when it's cold outside, working, typing out notes, listening to my favorite music and thinking about life.

On a personal note...

I know it's going to be a long tough year at work.  We are sailing into serious headwinds within our industry. Many know that I am former Echostar stock and worked there for many years. Most of my former colleagues from The "Echo" platforms are now unemployed.  Another wave of layoffs happened last week completing a 10% staff reduction since the merger of Echostar, Dish Network and Dish Technologies.

I don't know what the future holds for my company and my team. This is what I DO know though.  I am 100% committed to my company and my team. My motto this year is "Petal to the Metal". I am not going to let the distractions around me cloud my resolve to be the best team member at DIRECTV and push our company to new heights in the industry.  I have to power to make a difference. Knowing that is half the battle when you want to inspire change, inspire your team, and inspire a customer base to trust you with delivering their DBS platform.
