Who is this "John Mac" guy anyway? - An Introduction

John MacGugan began his career with DIRECTV in 1999 as an independent Dealer in Las Vegas, Nevada specializing in the Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) sphere of business. His dealership began residential sales and service in 2000, and added commercial sales and service in 2002.

In 2008 DIRECTV took their dealer services in-house and John made a career pivot to RF Engineering with a competing DBS provider.

In 2016 John returned to the DIRECTV team as a Senior Field Engineer with a focus on local channel contributions to the DIRECTV platform. In 2019 John relocated from Texas to the Midwest region in the same professional capacity. John recently celebrated his 7th anniversary with DIRECTV.

John has 1600+ hotel stays in the last 15 years and has traveled over 1,000,000 miles VIA Air and over the road.

John is a 4th Generation AT&T Employee, following in the footsteps of his Great Grandmother, Grandfather and Father, Step Mother and Uncle.

John's hobbies are anything "Star Wars", family activities, and NOT traveling when on Vacation.

Welcome to Spring! Showers, showers everywhere with tornados and some lightning to boot! So, what do you for DIRECTV anyway?

  Over the last seven years or so the most common question I get as I travel around this great country of ours is “What do you do for DIRECTV anyway?” For those interested, this week’s column is dedicated to my “Day Job”. Enjoy… Greetings from St. Louis! It's Sunday morning and my Battlehawks won a nail biter last night against the Arlington Renegades.  It was an amazing game and I was one of the 40,315 in attendance. Life is good.  Here is this weeks update. I decided to take a week to dedicate a column to my Field Engineering team. I am sure the optics might lead one to believe that I travel around the country staying in hotels, meeting with the hotel and bar staff and promoting DIRECTV.   Today marks the one year anniversary of my first column on Blogspot. It's a special day for me because When I started this blog I had no idea it would take off the way it did, or that I would still be posting today. Unfortunately, this is also the last weekly blog post I will be submitting to Blogspot. Before I explain why I am sunsetting the blog, let's go back and look at the evolution of how the blog came to be. HOW IT ALL STARTED I am a career traveler for DIRECTV . 48 weeks a year, 3-4 nights a week. I was traveling before the Covid-19 pandemic, I traveled through the pandemic, and in early 2022 as America was "Re-opening" I noticed that most of the hotel, restaurant and Bar staff that I had come to know pre-pandemic were no longer employed at my favorite establishments.
