"And the Emmy Award goes to..."

 I am working in Jefferson City, Missouri this week which is Missouri's capital. Tough to get a hotel when things are hoppin at the capital building so I diverted to Columbia and stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton. "The Broadway" is a beautiful Hotel with great food in-house, a 1st floor bar as well as a rooftop bar with views of the city.  What a great place.  My thanks to Jason and the team for the corner suite upgrade and the gracious hospitality. I will definately be back.  Did I mention that the Broadway is a #DIRECTVforBUSINESS property?? Yes it is...

I would like to offer a sincere congratulations to our engineering and marketing teams for the combined effort that has resulted in NOT ONE, BUT TWO Technical Emmy Awards in 2024 for our work bringing SIGNAL SAVER and PAUSE ADS to our DIRECTV platforms. 

I have been talking about Signal Saver for a while now.  This service allows our customers the option to convert their live signal from DIRECTV to DIRECTV STREAM in the event that any interruption to our "Beam" service would present itself. This is a "Game Changer" for our Satellite sourced customers.

I realize that our new PAUSE ADS feature might not be the best received feature by our customers, but DIRECTV is a for profit company and we need to be creative in the way we generate ad revenue. I like PAUSE ADS because it keeps the customer's TV from defaulting to Black when Live or DVR programming is paused, and it also offers a new revenue source for DIRECTV.

Well done team! I am proud to be a small part of what I believe is the BEST Video platform in the industry.

On a Personal note...

I will be in Los Angeles next week for our Commercial ATM. Very much looking forward to some mild weather, meeting some of my colleagues for the first time and hearing about the bright future ahead of us!  See yall next week!

Welcome to Spring! Showers, showers everywhere with tornados and some lightning to boot! So, what do you for DIRECTV anyway?

  Over the last seven years or so the most common question I get as I travel around this great country of ours is “What do you do for DIRECTV anyway?” For those interested, this week’s column is dedicated to my “Day Job”. Enjoy… Greetings from St. Louis! It's Sunday morning and my Battlehawks won a nail biter last night against the Arlington Renegades.  It was an amazing game and I was one of the 40,315 in attendance. Life is good.  Here is this weeks update. I decided to take a week to dedicate a column to my Field Engineering team. I am sure the optics might lead one to believe that I travel around the country staying in hotels, meeting with the hotel and bar staff and promoting DIRECTV.   Today marks the one year anniversary of my first column on Blogspot. It's a special day for me because When I started this blog I had no idea it would take off the way it did, or that I would still be posting today. Unfortunately, this is also the last weekly blog post I will be submitting to Blogspot. Before I explain why I am sunsetting the blog, let's go back and look at the evolution of how the blog came to be. HOW IT ALL STARTED I am a career traveler for DIRECTV . 48 weeks a year, 3-4 nights a week. I was traveling before the Covid-19 pandemic, I traveled through the pandemic, and in early 2022 as America was "Re-opening" I noticed that most of the hotel, restaurant and Bar staff that I had come to know pre-pandemic were no longer employed at my favorite establishments.
