The Future
This week finds me back in Kentucky. When I arrived at the Marriott Hotel Louisville I was instantly overwhelmed by the 1800 Engineering students who were at the hotel for Kentucky's Technology Student Association State finals. it literally took 30min. to get from the lobby to the 11th floor where my room was located all week. So many young people at the hotel! No complaints though...
The Louisville Marriott is a DIRECTVforBUSINESS hotel and restaurant I always reach out to the sales manager to say hello and thank her for being a DIRECTV customer. This is a great hotel based right in the middle of the downtown district. This hotel is highly recommended.
I was able to engage with many of the students at this event as you couldn't go anywhere in the hotel without running into dozens of groups congregating in the public areas. These students were smart, whitty, and full of opinions and energy. It was great to see so many young people who care about STEM, who are engaging with each other, learning, growing and preparing to take the lead in America's Technological future. The Future is bright indeed.
It was also a great opportunity for me to explain what I do to support DIRECTV, how I do it, and why my job is important. Today I realized that the Kentucky high school engineering students know more about my job than most of you who read my blog. I plan to change that. I am going to dedicate an upcoming column on my work at DIRECTV. Last fall I was invited to be a guest on Tan Tidwell's Podcast. Click the LINK to hear a little bit about what I do to support our DIRECTV customers in advance of my next column.
Everything works out how it's supposed to sometimes. Last week I registered for some DIRECTV training called "Challenge Circle - Public Speaking". I signed up for this training long before I knew I was going to be speaking at a technology conference. MacKinzie Felder from the DIRECTV Academy did a great job of leading the class. My thanks to "Mack" and the other participants who helped calm my nerves just hours before I hit the stage. If you are a DIRECTV Employee click the LINK to see a recording of the training. I dedicate one hour each week to DIRECTV Academy to try and learn more about my job and our company as a whole. DIRECTV Academy through PLE has some great training opportunities out there if you are interested. Talk to y'all next week!

Great stuff, John. Keep it coming.
